With the devastating fires in the Los Angeles area, the PGA Tour moved the Genesis Open from Riviera to Torrey Pines South — a course we saw just three weeks ago.
Per the PGA Media Guide, the setup will be the exact same as at the Farmers Insurance Open (except all 4 rounds at South Course), and no matter the setup, it will be a beast.
This is what I wrote about the course three weeks ago and my thoughts haven’t changed —> CLICK TO READ HERE
So I’ll give a short synopsis for those who don’t want to or can’t click that link
Torrey Pines South is difficult. Almost everything is harder at this course than the average course on Tour. Less birdies, more bogeys, less greens hit, less fairways hit, etc. Distance can be a differentiator because for all the chatter about the rough, it’s much more beneficial to be down the course, even if it’s in the rough.
WEATHER
It looks like a fair bit of rain overnight Wednesday and possibly into Thursday…wet course will only make it more advantageous to be long off the tee…(and keep this in mind if you’re a DFS Showdown player).
I know, super basic…but I didn’t want to just copy/paste from three weeks ago or spend 30 minutes in a thersaurus to write the same preview with different verbs and adjectives.
My four wagers fit what I’m searching for, with the major fault of all them — they don’t win very often! That has rarely scared me away before so we ride once again. No matter what, all four possess enough length to be advantageous (some more than others) with above average iron play. Now we let the dice roll how they may…
