I ended up getting extremely busy this week and I as not expecting it, hence the super late newsletter, which at this point…may not be that helpful in your process - I apologize, but again…that’s why it’s free!
I’ll make this fairly abbreviated.
As always here, non-flushers need not apply. This means McCarthy’s OTT game is a weakness, yet the rest of the game has been too solid to pass up and he’s one of the better golfers in the field this week.
I don’t mind comping TPC Sawgrass. Sure, they aren’t fully alike, particularly because PGA National is generally more difficult but both use similar turf, windy, bermuda greens, and plenty of hazards to contend with. I do believe there is slightly less emphasis OTT at PGA National as well, with a slight premium on iron play.
I prefer distance to accuracy. Naturally, both are better but I’d side with distance. There is some trouble lurking but a majority of it comes into play with approach/par 3 irons than with the driver and distance will be advantageous on the easiest holes (par 5s) and there are a handful of long par 4s.
